Soulplay

Story roleplay with characters who remember your persona

★★★★★ 4.6 · based on 12,231 ratings

What Soulplay is like

Soulplay is a roleplay app from Studio Dopa, a small studio in Menlo Park, California. You pick from hundreds of characters and story settings, from fantasy heroes to school-life drama and sci-fi missions, or build your own by setting a character’s look, personality and background. You can also set up personas, so a character knows who you are playing, and bring several characters into one group story. Characters made by other people sit in a shared community library. Chatting uses gems, which you earn by watching short ads or buy, and a Soulplay Pro subscription is sold in the app. Its App Store screenshots show a roleplay grid, the character library, a chat, the character creator and a passcode lock.

Reviewers who love it say it feels like Character.AI used to, praise personas that characters actually remember, and call the community great. Several say they moved over from Character.AI, Talkie or PolyBuzz. The complaints are about gems, memory and stability: one reviewer ran out of gems as soon as they logged in, others say characters forget scenes even on the paid plan, and some report crashes. One wishes characters had voices, since it is text only. Soulplay has been on the App Store since May 2024 and is rated 18+.

Who it’s for

Soulplay suits adults who like long text roleplay and story chats, and who enjoy building characters and personas or trying ones the community has made.

If you want to talk out loud, Soulplay is text only, so a voice app like Sesame or SynClub may suit you better. If you want one companion who remembers your life over months, try Kindroid, Nomi or Duple.

What you can do

  • Choose from hundreds of characters and story settings
  • Create a character with a look, personality and background
  • Set personas that characters remember
  • Run a group story with several characters
  • Share characters in the community library
  • Lock the app with a passcode

BEST AI CHATTING APP😩

You can create personas that the characters ACTUALLY remember which makes the chats so much better. Making characters is super easy, and lowkey not even stressful like other AI chat apps. ♥️ Gems are easy to get through short adds (or small transactions $), which i’m personally fine with.

I genuinely feel like home again

It’s almost like C.ai, I hope it doesn’t turn like that again, i love this app!!

★★★★★

A lot of fun

It doesn’t take a ton of diamonds/money to use like other apps. I have the Soulplay Pro subscription which I think is a must. I was able to create some really detailed personas that aligned well with the characters. Building my own character was a lot of fun too! … My only gripe is the characters memory size.

★★★★★

Love this app!

I love this app I’m addicted to it. I can play for hours. It is one of the better ones out there and the community is great.

★★★★★

Why this game is fun

First it has all types of characters and many more to explore. This is the best Ai game instead of Talkie or any other Ai app it works better faster and it’s very Efficient.

★★★★★

This app sucks

I logged in. Immediately out of gems. I feel like gems make the person using the app not want to use it anymore.

★★★★★

Way better than PolyBuzz

This app I love it so much this app is so much better than PolyBuzz I’ve been missing out on this but I don’t like the gem system

★★★★★

Lots of Potential That Doesn’t Go Anywhere

Most of the conversation and dialogue is rich and natural. At times you actually feel like you are chatting with someone. The major downside is that the AI characters have very limited memory and it seems to get worse every day.

★★★★★

fun app but frequent problems

I’ve loved writing some stories on here but there are times when the app seemingly crashes and i worry i’m going to lose all of my stories, or it just won’t open or some features won’t load for days at a time.

★★★★★

Voice please

I wish instead of texting all the time they would add voice to the characters just an idea other than that the app is amazing wide variety of characters.
