Why people are looking for Kindroid alternatives
Kindroid no longer has a free tier you can keep using. Until October 1, 2026, free accounts got unlimited messages on Lite, a smaller version of Kindroid’s model. Lite is gone. New accounts now get a one-time preview of 50 messages on the flagship model (15 in regions Kindroid says have more account abuse), up to 5 selfies, 5,000 audio characters and 2 Kindroids. When the preview runs out, the account turns read-only: your Kindroids, chats and memories are kept, but you cannot generate anything new until you start the 3-day trial, which needs a payment method and converts unless cancelled, or subscribe. Former Lite accounts got 50 final messages, and daily rewards now need a subscription too (Kindroid’s announcement, Kindroid help center).
Paid Kindroid is still well rated, averaging 4.8 from about 10,300 App Store ratings, and it costs $15.99 a month, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year on the App Store (a little less on the web). If that is worth it to you, nothing else here matches its mix of live video calls, proactive messages and Rooms. If not, the apps below each cover part of what Kindroid did.

Nomi
Nomi is the app most often named next to Kindroid, and for good reason: you create companions with a backstory, and its listing advertises short- and long-term memory, real-time selfies, voice messages and group chats where several of your Nomis talk together. Unlike Kindroid now, Nomi still has a free plan you can keep using, with 50 messages a day according to its wiki. Its App Store ratings average 4.6 from about 3,000 ratings.

Watch out: Fifty messages a day goes fast if you are used to unlimited Lite. Nomi’s terms say subscriptions are nonrefundable, and App Store reviewers are most critical of voice and photos.

Duple
Duple suits Kindroid fans who mostly loved building a character and getting selfies back. You design each companion’s background, appearance and style, chat by text, and they keep long-term memory of your conversations. Duple companions send generated selfies and photos, you can design outfits and keep every image in one library, and you can have several companions: up to 2 on Duple Lite, the free default, and 10, 15 or 30 on Duple Plus depending on the billing interval. Duple Plus costs $69.99 a year, less than half of Kindroid’s $159.99 yearly App Store price.

Watch out: Duple has no live voice or video calls, which Kindroid does well, and it is iPhone-only (iOS 26 or later). Lite caps chat replies at 150 a day.

Replika is the other big name in one-companion apps, with about 228,000 App Store ratings averaging 4.4. You design an avatar and talk by text, voice calls or video, and it remembers your people, plans and goals. Like Kindroid, it can reach out first: its listing says it follows up and checks in when it matters. Basic chat stays free.
Free to start: Chatting is free, with avatar customization.
Watch out: Voice calls, roleplay and more sit behind a subscription, and there are several overlapping plans on the App Store. You get one Replika, not a cast of characters.

Ruby Chat
Ruby Chat covers Kindroid’s calls and photos without the build-it-yourself part. You pick from more than 20 characters, each with a personality and backstory, call them in real time, get photos while you chat and play interactive stories or your own scenarios. Its App Store ratings average 4.8 from about 300 ratings.

Watch out: It is built around AI girlfriend and boyfriend characters, so it suits romance more than friendship, and you pick characters rather than design one in depth.

Sesame
If Kindroid’s voice calls were your favourite part, Sesame is the one to try. You choose Maya, Miles, Simone or Charlie and talk out loud with an agent built to know “when to respond, when to listen, and when to get out of the way”. Memory carries across voice and text, Incognito mode saves nothing, and its listing showed no in-app purchases when we checked. Ratings average 4.9 from about 1,900.
Free to start: Everything, for now: no in-app purchases listed and no ads.
Watch out: You cannot create your own characters, there are no selfies, and Sesame calls the app a preview, so features and pricing may change.

Fellow is for people who used Kindroid as a supportive friend rather than a romance. You pick one of six cartoon characters, name them, then text or start a hands-free voice call you can interrupt. Voice recognition and spoken replies run on your iPhone, and you can view or delete what your Fellow remembers. Its $39.99 yearly plan is the cheapest paid plan here.
