Start with what you want to change
People rarely leave Character.AI for one “better” app. They leave because they want more continuity, more control over a character, or a different character library. Pick the reason first, then the app.
Since November 2025, Character.AI has removed open-ended chat for users under 18 and added age assurance (Character.AI announcement). If you are under 18, most alternatives here are rated 17+ and are not meant for you either.
Nomi
Nomi is built around a single, ongoing relationship. The publisher advertises memory, voice, images, group chats and calls, plus a character builder.
Watch out: There is no big public library of other people’s characters, which is the thing many Character.AI users miss most.

Duple is for people who want a companion they design themselves and who also sends pictures. The App Store listing describes long-term memory, multiple characters, generated selfies and short video selfies, custom outfits and a saved image library.
Watch out: It is iPhone-only (iOS 26 or later), with no web or Android app, and there is no live voice chat. There is no shared library of other people’s characters.
