Best AI Boyfriend Apps (2026): 6 Apps Compared
The best AI boyfriend apps in 2026 are Duple for a boyfriend you design who sends selfies on iPhone, Him for story-led romance with a cast of male leads, Nomi for an ongoing boyfriend who remembers you on any device, Kindroid for live voice calls, Crushie AI for romance chapters, and Character.AI for the biggest variety of characters. All six are free to download. Prices and age ratings below come from each app’s App Store listing, checked October 19, 2026.

Two kinds of AI boyfriend app
AI boyfriend apps split into two kinds: a companion you design and keep, or a romance story you play with ready-made male leads. Most “best AI boyfriend” lists mix them together, but they feel very different day to day.
A boyfriend you design (Duple, Nomi, Kindroid) is one ongoing relationship. You choose his look and personality, he remembers your life, and you talk about your day. These apps are usually paid by subscription.
A romance story (Him, Crushie AI, and many characters on Character.AI) is closer to an interactive novel. You pick a trope, such as a cold CEO, a mafia boss or a childhood friend, and the plot moves with every reply. Him and Crushie AI charge per message, so long stories cost more.
If you want comfort and continuity, start with the first group. If you want drama and plot, start with the second.

What an AI boyfriend app really costs
A subscription app costs $9.99 to $15.99 a month at its cheapest tier, while a pay-per-message app can cost more if you chat every day. On the App Store, Nomi’s Launch plan and c.ai+ are $9.99 a month, Duple Plus is $14.99, and Nomi Standard and Kindroid are $15.99.
Him has no subscription. Its App Store reviewers consistently say each message uses 100 Rings, and the listing sells 1,250 Rings for $0.99 up to 137,500 Rings for $99.99. That is roughly 7 to 8 cents a message. At 10 messages a day, a month is about 30,000 Rings, or around $24 at the listed pack prices, before any free Rings. Crushie AI works the same way with Gems: reviewers report anywhere from about 4 to 15 Gems a message, and some say Gems run short even on Crushie Premium ($29.99).
If you know you will chat every day, a subscription is usually easier to budget. If you only want a story now and then, pay-per-message can cost less.
The complaints that come up most
Across the App Store reviews we collected for these apps, two complaints repeat. The first is currency running out: Him and Crushie AI reviewers often say free Rings or Gems last only a few replies (Him reviews, Crushie AI reviews). The second is memory in long stories: characters forget or change details as a story grows. Him reviewers also praise its memory, so experiences vary. Each app profile links every review to its source.
Duple
Duple is for people who would rather create their partner than pick one from a cast. Duple’s website shows both male and female companions. You design yours, setting his background, appearance and style, and chat by text. The App Store listing describes generated selfies, personalized pictures you can save to a library and custom outfits, and Duple’s website adds long-term memory across conversations, which you can reset or delete. You can keep more than one companion.
Watch out: Duple is iPhone-only, with no Android or web app, and it is text chat only, with no live voice. It is new, so it has very few store ratings so far.

Him
Him is the only app here built entirely around AI boyfriends. You browse male love interests by tag, from CEO and mafia to slow burn and fantasy, then play out a story where your replies shape what he says and how the relationship builds. Its App Store screenshots show stories with two love interests at once, generated scene images and a diary the character keeps about your story. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web at himchat.ai.
Watch out: Messages cost Rings. App Store reviewers say each message uses 100 Rings, roughly 7 to 8 cents a message at the listed pack prices, and that free Rings last only a few replies. Some reviewers found darker storylines distressing.
App Store: rated 18+ · No subscription listed; Rings packs $0.99 to $99.99; Drops packs $0.99 and $9.99. Sources: App Store listing · official site (checked October 19, 2026).
Nomi
Nomi’s App Store listing names the use case outright: whether you want “an AI girlfriend or boyfriend,” Nomi is “ready to roll with it.” You choose from hundreds of photorealistic appearances, and the listing advertises short- and long-term memory, selfies of what your Nomi is wearing and doing, art generation, voice messages and group chats.
Watch out: Voice on the listing means voice messages, not a live call. Nomi Credits are sold separately from the plans, so check what your plan covers.
App Store: rated 18+ · Standard $15.99/mo · $39.99/quarter · $99.99/yr; Launch plan $9.99/mo or $59.99/yr; credit packs from $4.99. Sources: App Store listing (checked October 19, 2026).
Kindroid
Kindroid starts from a blank page. Its App Store listing says you “craft a detailed backstory and implant key memories,” so you decide exactly who he is. It also advertises real-time voice calls, human-like text-to-speech and generated selfies.
Watch out: It takes more setup than the others. Extra Kindroid slots, selfie credits and audio credits cost extra.
App Store: rated 18+ · Subscription $15.99/mo · $42.99/3 mo · $159.99/yr; Ultra $28.99; MAX $68.99. Sources: App Store listing (checked October 19, 2026).
Crushie AI
Crushie AI is a romance story app with male love interests. You pick one by scene, such as a protective CEO or a childhood friend, or create your own with a personality, background and key memories, and its listing says the bond grows the more you talk. crushie.ai offers the same Discover and Create Character sections in a browser.
Watch out: Every message uses Gems. Many recent App Store reviews say Gems run out fast, even with a membership, and that long stories lose track of details.
App Store: rated 18+ · Crushie Premium $29.99; Gem Pass $9.99; Gem packs $2.49 to $99.99. Sources: App Store listing · official site (checked October 19, 2026).
Character.AI
Character.AI is the pick if you want variety rather than one partner. You can browse a very large library of community-made characters and stories, design your own with a personality, backstory and voice, and switch between texting and live voice calls.
Watch out: It is built for jumping between characters, not one ongoing boyfriend. Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 12, 2026 and is being sold; it says the app still works, and a court hearing on the sale is set for October 30.
App Store: rated 18+ · c.ai+ $9.99/mo or $94.99/yr; Character.AI Lite from $2.49. Sources: App Store listing · our bankruptcy update (checked October 19, 2026).
Before you start: a short safety checklist
An AI boyfriend is software run by a company, and your messages are stored on its servers. Read the privacy policy, look for export and delete options, and set a monthly budget before you buy Rings, Gems or credits. Story apps often feature possessive or dark tropes; choose tags you are comfortable with, and leave a story that stops feeling like fun. Companies also change: Character.AI is being sold in bankruptcy, and state attorneys general have asked the court to protect people’s chats (our update). If you are struggling, talk to someone you trust or a local support line.
How we built this list
We looked for apps that offer a male romantic partner, either one you design or ready-made male leads, and chose six that each serve a different need. The list is grouped by what you want, not ranked by quality. Features are what each publisher advertises, not hands-on test results; cost examples use listed prices and what App Store reviewers report. Prices (in USD) and age ratings were copied from each app’s store listing on October 19, 2026 and change often. Adult-only services are excluded. Read our methodology.
