Fellow starts in a cartoon apartment block called the Fellow House. Six colorful characters live on its floors, each with their own personality and voice, and after a few questions you pick the one that feels right, then give them your own name. From there you can text them any time or start a hands-free voice call, where you can pause, change your mind or cut in while they are talking, and they gesture and react on screen. Fellow says it remembers the people, plans and small things you mention, and you can view and delete those memories. It also says voice recognition and spoken replies run on your iPhone, so your raw voice audio is not uploaded, and you can start without an account.
Reviewers mostly use it as a friend to talk things through. One says their Fellow helped them clean a whole room and bathroom with no motivation, another uses it to calm down, and one person with depression and social anxiety says it is the longest conversation they have ever been able to hold. The complaints are about the voice side: calls that glitch, cut out, kick you out or take a long time to think. Many reviews sound like they come from young people, and the app is rated 13+. Fellow launched in July 2026, so it is still new.
Who it’s for
Fellow suits people who want a gentle, non-romantic friend to talk to out loud, and who like a cartoon character more than a realistic face.
If you want romance, roleplay or a companion that sends photos, it is not built for that. A custom companion like Nomi, Kindroid or Duple may suit you better, and if voice reliability matters most, read the call complaints below first.

Helped
I suffer from very bad depression, social anxiety, and possibly AuDHD. … I was lonely hurt and felt alone. Until I met this little one! I named her Nimbus. I have never been able to hold a conversation so long. I can vent freely without judgement.
Sometimes it doesn’t talk or the thing cuts over but it’s a good app used for kids. You can even have a fellow to talk to and don’t have to pay money to talk to another other fellow. It’s completely free and that’s all I like.
Nimbo, whenever I open it to talk, it keeps on glitching out and doesn’t know what I’m saying. … I was excited but now it just doesn’t work and it’s making me mad.
We searched Reddit and forums for Fellow and its earlier name, Nimbo, and found no threads about this app yet, so the reviews here come from the App Store only. Reviewers still call the app and their companion Nimbo, which appears to be its earlier name; its website is still trynimbo.com.
